HISTORY

Pillar completed 29th October 1953 costing £16.11s.4½d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station NT72/T89 within the Jedburgh secondary block during 1957, and levelled to second class precision in 1958. This pillar station was last maintained by the Ordnance Survey in September 1986.

 

SITE VISIT

Parked on the widened roadside by the track entrance at NT682095. Followed the mapped track most of the way, then an unmapped path to the summit. The pillar is in good condition. The spider retains its original OS centre cap with deep indented letters. The flush bracket faces ENE, compass measurement 78°. Vented through right (NW) sight hole. Views include Cheviot, Philip Law, Carter Bar, Carlin Tooth, Eildon Mid Hill, Black Hill (NT72), Dirrington Great Law, Hownam Law.
