G0911 - Bridge of Bennie

NO 7178 9653, LR38 & LR45.

Second Geodetic Levelling, Scotland (1936-52).

Flush bracket G911 was used during the second geodetic levelling of Scotland, and was levelled with a height of 182.419 feet above mean sea level (Newlyn datum). It was included on the Aberdeen to Banchory levelling line. Geodetic line G.200, levelled during 1944. The surveyor's description was E end of N parapet of Bridge of Bennie.

This marker was last verified in 1968. The OS Online Archive gives the description "Bridge of Bennie parapet, NW side of toad, NE side of river".

SITE VISIT

Had to flatten brambly undergrowth in front of parapet. The flush bracket has gone. The mortar in the parapet is crumbling and the bracket must have been loose or fallen to the ground. There was no sign of it lying in immediate proximity. The bracket is presumably now an ornament or scrapped.
