G0597 - High Corton, Railway Bridge

Second Geodetic Levelling, Scotland (1936-52).

Flush bracket G597 was used during the second geodetic levelling of Scotland, and was levelled with a height of 200.402 feet above mean sea level (Newlyn datum). It was included on the New Cumnock to Ayr levelling line. Geodetic line G.258, levelled during 1941. The surveyor's description was N face of S parapet of bridge over railway, 10' E of junction to fence.

 

Third Geodetic Levelling, Scotland (1956-68).

This flush bracket was used again during the third geodetic levelling of Scotland. It was included on the New Cumnock to Ayr levelling line. Geodetic line G.306, levelled during 1958. The surveyor's description was S parapet of bridge.

 

This marker was last verified in 1969. The OS Online Archive gives the description "parapet of bridge, 5.0m west of centre of railway, S sode of road"

 

SITE VISIT

Flush bracket on west end of south parapet of railway bridge, facing across road. Public access. Bracket in good condition.
