G0140 - Knockentiber, School (destroyed)

Second Geodetic Levelling, Scotland (1936-52)
Flush bracket G140 was used during the second geodetic levelling of Scotland, and was levelled with a height of 156.770 feet (47.78 metres) above mean sea level (Newlyn datum). It was included on the Ayr to Dunlop levelling line. Geodetic line G.204, levelled during 1937. The surveyor's description was N face, 7 ft. W of NW angle of school, W side of road, Knockentiber.
Third Geodetic Levelling, Scotland (1956-68)
This bench mark was reused during the third geodetic levelling of Scotland. It was included on the Thankerton to Dunlop line. Geodetic line G.382, levelled during 1957. The surveyor's description was "W face, NW angle of building Hillhouse".
This marker was last verified in 1961 as a tertiary marker. The OS Online Archive gives the description "RC school, NW side of road, NE face, 2.4m from east angle".
SITE VISIT
Garage workshop built onto front of former school. Revisited on a weekday when the vehicle restoration and accident repair business was open. Sandy Wallace the garage proprietor was more then helpful. He kindly took us around the back to look at the old school building. From there I was able to work out that the part of the building we needed to see is actually indoors where his office is. That face of the wall is now plastered as it has been since before Sandy bought the premises. Unless the FB is entombed in the plaster, it is more likely that it was probably removed when the building use was changed. Footnote, if you ever need a vehicle repaired or restored in Ayrshire, Sandy gets great reviews.
