HISTORY

Pillar completed 22nd April 1940 costing £4.7s.3d. Computed as secondary triangulation station SD80/34 within the Manchester block during 1945. Levelled for height to first class precision, tertiary standards in October 1962. Last maintained by the OS in February 1980.

 

SITE VISIT

Approached from east. Ample free public parking at the west end of Tandle Hill Road. Followed mapped footpath network through the country park to the top. Using a GPS will speed up finding the correct location through the woods. Pillar located just outside the woods, beside monument. Column in good condition. Spider centre open, centre tube filled with debris. Flush bracket faces southeast, compass measurement 127°. Vented through three sight holes, port on FB face still plugged, innard blocked with debris. 270° panoramic view spanning clockwise from SSE through south west and north to ENE.
