HISTORY

Pillar completed 14th May 1940 costing £4.2s.9d. Computed as secondary triangulation station SD80/6 within the Manchester block during 1945. Levelled for height to first class precision, tertiary standards in November 1958. Last maintained by the OS in February 1980.

 

SITE VISIT

Approached from northwest. Layby on east side of Lane Head Road at SD961031. Followed mapped RoW to top. Open grazing top. Pillar in good condition. Spider retains original OS centre cap with shallow engraved letters. Flush bracket faces SSW, compass measurement 193°. All sight holes open, innards filled with debris. Full 360° panoramic view.
