11900 - Penistone Hill

HISTORY

Pillar completed 19th April 1948 costing £10.11s.0d with flush bracket S4489. Computed as tertiary triangulation station SE02/T34 within the Rochdale secondary block during 1948. This pillar was rebuilt in 1972 with new flush bracket, OSBM 11900. Flush bracket 11900 was levelled for height to first class precision, secondary standards during 1972. This pillar station was last maintained by the Ordnance Survey in June 1986.

 

SITE VISIT

Approached from the northeast. Free car parks are located off the west side of the unclassified road. Parked at SE026369. Followed the footpath network to summit. THe pillar is in fair condition. The spider contains a grey plastic disc fitted by Jon Rouse, 22nd September 2002. The flush bracket faces ESE, compass measurement 118°. Vented through three sight holes, the left (SW) face is plugged, the innards are blocked with debris. Full 360° panoramic view from trig point.
