S5617 - Crina Bottom Farm

HISTORY

The pillar was completed 8th July 1949 costing £11.14s.0d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station SD96/T7 within the Skipton secondary block during 1951. Flush bracket S5617 was levelled for height to first class precision, tertiary standards in August 1953. This pillar station was last maintained by the Ordnance Survey in June 1976.

 

SITE VISIT

Approached from northeast. Road quiet and wide enough to park by NW kerb at SD742685. Followed mapped field boundaries WNW and SSW to trig. Pillar on NW side of boundary fence, planted field to NW, pasture to SE. Column in good condition. Spider retains original OS centre cap with shallow engraved letters. Flush bracket faces ESE, ~114° into fence. Vented through sighting hole on FB face. Open outlook is mainly an upward view to surrounding hills.
