Old Man Indy

Happy Birthday Indy

“When you have dogs, you witness their uncomplaining acceptance of suffering, their bright desire to make the most of life in spite of the limitations of age and disease, their calm awareness of the approaching end when their final hours come. They accept death with a grace that I hope I will one day be brave enough to muster.”

― Dean Koontz, A Big Little Life: A Memoir of a Joyful Dog

Indy always seemed to defy age, until he turned 13 he had the energy and stamina of a dog half his age. Then time finally caught up with him and the next nine months were a slow decline of arthritis, strokes and finally cancer. For most of his life he was always waiting for me to catch up then the tables turned and I had to show him the same patience when he started to struggle .

If Indy had lived he would have turned 19 today on the 19th of March, I hope wherever he went to he is back to full fitness, running and chasing in full flow. But I will treasure every moment with him even the sad moments of his last year when his heart was still willing but his legs couldn’t quite keep up. Happy Birthday Indy, I will always love you.
