2022-05-19 Felmer: Biserica fortificată
The village bears the name of a priest, Felmer, who settled there in 1206 with several settler families.
Felmer's first church has been documented since 1494, but parts of the Romanesque construction date from the 13th century, with construction of the church beginning in 1250.
In the 15th century the church was transformed into a fortified church with an enclosure of protective walls, equipped with two bastions which were also used to store grain from the village. The church tower was not completed until 1795. Later, the lard of the villagers was kept there. In 1866, the belfry was renovated. The last major renovation work took place in 1909, when the school adjacent to the premises was also built.
The organ built in 1780 by Johannes Prause was transferred in 1995 to the Evangelical Church in Făgăraş. There are 3 bells in the belfry. The large one, dated 1614, the one from the middle of 1924, and the small one, donated by the Felmer Women's Association, from 1926.
The fortification has a polygonal enclosure with defense towers, four square and one hexagonal. It is preserved in its original form only on the northeast and southeast sides. Of the five towers, only two remain today in the north-eastern part, the others were demolished by the villagers, the building materials having been used to build the school and its annex. The school and the annex were vandalized by the gypsies of the village and not only, so today only ruins remain.
