2021-07-07 16h52 Pianu de sus: Biserica de lemn "Cuvioasa Paraschiva"

This church is located at the top of the cemetery in Pianu de Sus Parish and dates from 1761, according to the inscription in Cyrillic letters on the beam that separates the altar from the nave. The church is built of fir wood, placed on a stone foundation, and the painting is made directly on the beams. Initially, the church was 14 m long and 7 m wide, but because it was damaged, only the altar (which has a hexagonal shape) and a small part of the nave were preserved, and the tower (bell tower) was moved to the preserved part.

Mass was served in this church until 1842, and currently it is only served there in summer, during certain Feasts.

In the cemetery around the wooden church there are still wooden tombstones, beautifully decorated, inlaid with the symbol "XIII" and it is said that it is a Roman custom preserved from the period of colonization, here being located "Legion XIII Gemina" due to the gold mining of the Dacians in the area.
