The Great Royal Hotel was built in 1890, possibly with the same architect as the Hotel Negresco in Nice (Édouard-Jean Niermans). The hotel's first name was that of its first owner: Nicolae “Niţă” Ştefănescu.

In recent years the hotel has been called the Unic Hotel, but now the building is abandoned.
