Gheorghe Asachi (1788-1869) organized and directed national education during the first half of the 19th century. It was he who in 1828, at this place, laid the foundations for the creation of the primary school of the Three Hierarchs.
In November 1898, the land for the construction of the new primary school was cleared of the old buildings. The construction was carried out by the contractors A. Bercovici and Mechler according to the plans of the architect Inginio Vignali. Given the proximity of the church of the Three Hierarchs, the facade of the School was established after consultation with the architect Lecomte de Noüy, the restorer of the religious building.
In front of the school is the white marble statue of Gheorghe Asachi. The work was produced in 1890 by the Bucharest sculptor Ion Georgescu (1856-1898), considered to be the most important representative of neoclassicism in Romanian sculpture.
