PIATRA NEAMT: Biserica "Sf. Ioan"

The Church of the Birth of St. John the Baptist in Piatra Neamț is a masterpiece of the Moldovan ecclesiastical architecture from the end of the 15th century, one of the constructions that have been preserved to this day from the old royal residence in Neamț. The building was built between 1497-1498 in the Moldovan style constituted in the time of Stefan cel Mare, with the strong influences of Gothic architecture.

 

“To the honor and the love of Christ, Yo Stefan Voivode, by the grace of God Prince of Moldavia, son of Bogdan Voivode, began to build this house in the name of Birth of honest and well-loved Holy Prophet John the Baptist the Precursor, to pray for myself and for my Lady Maria and for their most beloved son, Bogdan; and which it was begun to build in the year 1497, july 15, and it was finished in the year 1498 and of his reign 40 and second year, November, 11.”

 

The Royal Court of Piatra Neamț is an ensemble of historical monuments located in the center of the municipality of Piatra Neamț. The ensemble consists of the following monuments:

The Royal Church "The Birth of St. John the Baptist", Basement ruins, Bell tower, Ruins of enclosure wall, Museum of the Royal Court.
