The Monastery, dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin, is situated on a sunny plateau, above the village of Moisei, surrounded by the hills, at the foot of Mount Pietrosu Rodnei (2303 m). The town of Moisei belonged to the domain of Bogdan, voivode of Maramureş, founder of independent Moldavia.
In the woods near Moisei, monks have been forced through the fifteenth century. In the sixteenth century a modest monstrosity emerged from which the Moses Monastery evolved, as things happened with many monasteries on the Romanian soil. In 1599, the monks here raised the old church, which is still preserved.
