Sat-Sugatag Biserica de lemn “Cuvioasa Paraschiva”
Sat-Şugatag is an old settlement of Maramureş, on the Mare's valley, first documented by an act in March 1360. The property of Dragoş from Giuleşti, along with five other "nostras olachales", was strengthened by the Hungarian Royal Authority.
The wooden church dedicated to " The Holy Paraschiva" was built in 1642, made of oak wood, on the foundation of another old church. It was painted much later, probably in 1753, an important year in the narthex of Pope John. The monument falls within the typology of the Maramures wooden churches, presenting its characteristic features: the double eaves at the nave and the narthex, the tower with the arched tower outside the base profile and a prolonged helmet in eight waters.
The motif of torsade twisted rope in the middle of the outer walls walls of the church is also found in the door frame, a decoration specific to wooden constructions that can be found frequently and in other genres practiced in the popular creation of wood.
It is possible to establish an approximation between the wooden frames of the doors of these churches and the profile of the stone frames of Getian origin. The overall proportions of the ensemble, the verticality imposed by the tower's silhouette, together with the elements listed above, constitute so many arguments of the aesthetic specificity that distinguishes the civilization of the Maramures wood.
Between 1969 and 1970, the monument was repaired by the Department of Historical Monuments, and in 1994 it was rebuilt with an oak tree by a team of local craftsmen.
