Cavnic is one of the 13 towns of Maramureş County, which, from the beginning of its existence to the present day, has been an important center for the exploitation of noble and non-ferrous metals, such as gold, silver, copper, lead, zinc. The locality dates from 1250-1300 and is related to the extraction of gold and silver. The mines were originally the property of the Hungarian king Carol Robert, later the governor of Hungary, John of Hunedoara, the principles of Transylvania, the Hungarian eras and mining companies.
