Orsova : Mănăstirea Mraconia
Monastery Mraconia is to be found in the nicest part of the Danube, at the Cazanele Dunarii. The church being constructed in 1523 or 1453, the dates differing according to the different opinions of people.
The original monastery was destroyed and rebuilt several times and was eventually swallowed up in the waters of the Danube during the construction of the hydroelectric dam of Iron Gates around 1967.
The current building was built on the initiative of the Metropolitan of Oltenia, between 1993 and 2000.
