Ruins of Farina

Farina was built on a gibber plain, 640km North of Adelaide, 320 km north of

Port Augusta, South Australia. It began as ‘Government Gums’ – popularly referred to as ‘Gee-

Gee’. In 1878 the town was surveyed to become, in 1882, the railhead of

the Great Northern Railway, the furthest extension of the plans of growing

wheat beyond the Goyders Line. At its peak it had a population of 300 and finally abandoned in the1960's
