dried out mudflats near
Pakowki Lake
Alberta

Road Trip 2016(last year)
i was looking at shorebirds in a different direction, but was wondering what was up with this avocet.
She was vocal ....wandering away...and then would come back quietly....then go vocal again and retreat.
This was one of my first times seeing this species so i didnt have a frame of reference.
i surmise she figured i was ok....because the mystery was solved as she settled onto her nest.
I was there for quite a while ...and she did still left the nest a few more times, but never for very long.
It was vrry hot already in the morning.
i was in the area only briefly (less than 24hrs) so couldnt follow up on this nesting.
Fortunately there also were already hatched young of varying ages, in the vicinity,to observe.
