Tramonto sul Plateau du Trient
Lo splendido ghiacciaio del Plateau de Trient si trova in Vallese (Svizzera) all'estremità orientale della catena del Monte Bianco. E' limitato a ovest dalla bella cresta delle Aiguilles Dorées. In secondo piano si scorgono le cime dell'Aiguille d'Argentiere (seminascosta) e dell'Aiguille du Chardonnet, entrambe in Francia, al di là del confine.
In questa vecchia foto (scattata alla Cabane du Trient nell'agosto 1989) il Plateau è colto nella luce calda del tramonto. Ingrandendola si riescono a scorgere varie cordate impegnate ancora sul ghiacciaio.
Oggi anche questo ghiacciaio si è fortemente ridotto (un'altra vittima del riscaldamento globale).
Sunset on the Trient Plateau.
The magnificent "Plateau du Trient" glacier is located in Valais (Switzerland) at the eastern end of the Mont Blanc range. It is limited to the west by the beautiful ridge of the Aiguilles Dorées. In the background you can see the peaks of the Aiguille d'Argentiere (almost hidden) and of the Aiguille du Chardonnet, both in France, across the border.
In this old photo (taken at the Cabane du Trient in August 1989) the Plateau is captured in the warm light of the sunset. By zooming in, you can see various alpinists still engaged on the glacier.
Today this glacier too has shrunk strongly (another victim of global warming).
