PRS_020 Manteau en coton imprimé, Dries van Noten, 2017

In Antwerp in the second half of the 1980s, a new aesthetic emerged at the forefront of Belgian fashion. Dries Van Noten, one of the group of young designers known as the Antwerp Six, founded his own ready-to-wear company in 1985.

For Spring/ Summer 2017, he drew inspiration from different forms of textile craftsmanship, including tapestry. This coat reproduces both the form's materiality, with the texture of the interweaving warp and weft threads, and its decorative style, borrowing the vigorous swirls of acanthus foliage seen in medieval and Renaissance tapestry.
