UK_626 Marble portrait of an unidentified Hellenistic ruler

Marble portrait of an unidentified Hellenistic ruler

Roman copy of the 2nd century AD from a lost Hellenistic original, probably of the 2nd century BC

Although the person here represented cannot be identified with certainty, the treatment of the hair in thick, coarse locks, the side-burns and look of fierce determination are typical of some Hellenistic ruler portraits. (The nose and bust are restored.)
