A Riveting View
The south portal of Dudley tunnel, seen from New Road bridge. The cutting was orginally the site of Blowers Green station - the abutments roughly half way between the bridge and tunnel carried the station's original booking office until the 1930's when it was replaced by one at street level. The station closed completely on 30 July 1962, with the line being mothballed in 1993. It is now proposed for use as part of a Very Light Rail test track.
The pipe crossing the line was part of the local gas works, now long closed and redeveloped as housing - some of which can be seen on the skyline.
