See Yup Temple
Taoist temple in South Melbourne with garlands of incense smoke at the front door. Designed by Geoffrey Wharton replacing old wooden lodgings and temple in 1856. Centre for worship and community for local See Yup citizens. Two additional memorial halls were built in 1901 and 2004. The buildings hold the death and community records of 13,000 Chinese Australians dating from the 1850s. In 1978 the temple registered by the Australia Heritage Commission as a building of historical and architectural importance.
