Afternoon on the River

Intermediate Egret (Ardea intermedia) is highlighted in the late afternoon sun on the Ord River, a permanent habitat created by the massive irrigation scheme. The vast expanse of Lake Argyll, an inland sea, was created as a holding basin to supply a constant level of water to flow into and through the irrigation channels.
