By donating one or more torii, they hope for the assistance of the rice god and thus success for their businesses.
In the foreground are two female tourists dressed as Maikos. This experience being a Geisha or Maiko for a few hours is offered in Kyoto by special agencies and can costs up to 30,000 yen (230 euros / 277 U.S. dollars).
