Key Tag
Key Reward / Registry Tags were small metal tags that were attached to keys and offered a reward for the safe return of lost keys to their owners .Simple enough or so you would think but It is hard to know if these small objects should be called Reward Tags or Registry Tags because of the different companies that used them, Some of the larger Insurance companies offered as part of the house insurance policy to pay a reward for the return of lost keys and sometimes the reward amount was on the tag 5/- 10/- or £1 etc , in this case they could be called Insurance Reward tags , however some insurance companies did not always state the reward amount so then they would be simply insurance tags. That is not too complicated but then we have smaller companies , sometimes attached to large insurance companies , that were called Key Property Registries they also issued key tags and finally there were private people who had tags attached to their keys that sometimes offered a reward , I have been collecting these tiny objects for many years now and have put together this small site to share what little I know about them and the companies that issued them .As more companies come to light it is hoped to update this web site to include pictures and ephemera .The companies will be listed in order however the use of the word The in a titled will be ignored so for example The Scottish National Key Registry will be listed as Scottish National Key Registry, the usual size of tags was 1/1/4 Inch x 1/4 Inch and they are usually found in a worn state , In the following pages tags that have an * beside are tags that at present I don't have in my collection and of course I am always looking for ephemera or any other details about tags and/or tag companies
