The conventional railway line from Madrid to Valencia via Cuenca is under threat. Currently the section between Cuenca and Utiel is operated by bus services and in Utiel another change to Cercanias trains is necessary. In future the whole section between Tarancón and Utiel shall be closed.
For the Cercanias line between Valencia and Utiel a modernisation ist planned instead, which is badly needed, because of many speed restrictions along the line.
Due to the current situation the replacement train for R 18163 from Valencia to Cuenca runs now between Valencia and Utiel with a 592 in Cercanias livery.
