Le samedi 1er février, deux manifestations ont eu lieu à Londres. L’une était une marche pour T. Robinson sous le nom de « Stop the Isolation ». L’autre était une contre-manifestation organisée par Stand Up To Racism. Les deux se terminant dans la même rue, ce qui, en France, aurait été synonyme d’émeutes. Mon idée était donc d’assister aux deux manifestations mais la contre-manifestation s’est terminée plus tôt que prévu et par conséquent, je n’ai pu prendre que deux photos de cette dernière.
J’avais lu de nombreux témoignages indiquant les difficultés à photographier ces manifestants. Je suis habituée à ce que mon objectif soit soulevé brusquement ou qu’une main soit placée devant, en signe de désapprobation. Mais je dois dire que j’ai été étonnamment bien accueillie.
On Saturday, February 1st, two protests were held in London. One was a march for T. Robinson under the name “Stop the Isolation”. The other one was a counter-protest organised by Stand Up To Racism. Both ended in the same street. What would have been, in France, synonymous with riots, was not. My idea was to attend both of protests but the counter-protest ended sooner than I expected and consequently, I was able to take only two pictures.
I had read many testimonies indicating the difficulties in photographing these demonstrators. I'm used to my photo lens being raised abruptly or a hand put in front of it, as a sign of disapproval. But I have to say that I was surprisingly welcomed.
