Manhattan: View north-east with the Sony Building (formerly the AT&T) in foreground, 2012
In the foreground is the Johnson & Burgee Sony Tower (formerly AT&T) with the 'celebrated' Chippendale pediment. This is now one of the best known examples of the 1980s Post-Modern style that the architects favoured. In the right-hand distance is the Bloomberg Tower at 731 Lexington Avenue. A glass skyscraper by Cesar Pelli Associates, completed in 2004 at a height of 807 feet (247 meters) excluding the antenna.
This view has changed dramatically with the completion of 432 Park Avenue, New York's second tallest at 1,396 feet and now the world's highest residential building, designed by Rafael Viñoly.
