Light and snow

Sodium Oxide Lamps were first invented in 1936 but were not widely used until the 1950's. The bulb is Neon gas based, when first switched on the neon gas glows red. As it heats up the neon gas mixes with the sodium to produce the yellow glow which is designed to counter eye fatigue of motorists travelling at night. The bulbs have a very long lifespan of up to 20 years.
