Unexpected encounter - Mertens' water monitor

Sitting on a rock by the water's edge at Maguk gorge (formerly known as Barramundi gorge) when a shape moving underwater from an upstream waterfall caught my attention. As the shape was gradually wending its way in my general direction, I sat very still. My reward was a close encounter with this beautiful lizard.
