That was the old logo of the famous Chesapeake and Ohio Railway, founded in Virginia in 1869 with deep roots in Appalachian coal country.
Today, the railroad's lines live on under CSX, which earlier this year repainted CSXT 1869 into the classic C&O scheme as part of its new heritage program, whereby the locomotives start with the modern CSX scheme and then "fade" into the heritage scheme to signify that CSX is 'pulling its history with it".
Here the unit blares through Hammond, IN in a misty rain leading intermodal train I135 for 59th St Yard in Chicago, having started its journey in Virginia the day prior.
