Foreign Power on the Geneva!
On June 1, 2022, UP retired the old ATC system in use across many of its ex-C&NW lines in Illinois and Iowa, as well as routes in Nebraska. With that change, any foreign power that has PTC installed will now be allowed to lead across these lines without needing a special FRA waiver!
NS 4451 is the first unit from a foreign railroad to lead a westbound train across the Geneva Subdivision in daylight, seen here with an empty ethanol train passing under the classic C&NW searchlights in Nelson. It is not the first foreign power overall, though, as two other NS units traversed the line under darkness.
With these changes, we can thankfully expect more variety on this line now!
