The "Original" Meet
Thousands of people were on hand to witness the replicas of Central Pacific's "Jupiter" steam locomotive and UP 119 meet at Promontory Summit on the day of the 150th Anniversary of the driving of the Golden Spike, completing the original Transcontinental Railroad.
Several dignitaries were on hand for this event, including UP CEO Lance Fritz, Utah Governor Gary Herbert, and Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao, as well as an Indian chieftain that was a descendant of the Native Americans who helped build the railroad.
They certainly did make those locomotives look pretty!
