SUU 'Brîn-âos Chkhubî'

Brîn-âos Chkhubî had travelled many sectors, but had yet to find another of his kind. He had spent the last several centuries in a nebula, collecting what the UNE transports that frequently visited would know as Hw-274; for him, it was his sustenance. He wondered if he would ever see his own kind again, but decided those kinds of thoughts were not conducive to maintaining properly functioning systems. His hyperfission reactors were reading nominal, the last repair having been finished 2.30-57 kinecycles ago. His external vacuoles were filling with his precious food of cosmic gas as he slowly drifted through the immense gas cloud.

"There, another one", he thought.

In the distance he could sense another Earthvessel, undoubtedly refueling its cargo. But this one seemed different.

He could see through his spatial sensors that it was coming from with right side rather than his left. This was a side of space that was much less travelled.

The vessel had many spires atop and below it, and reflected different lightwaves back to him: rather than the white-gray-blue of the UNE gas-trawlers and cargo ships he was accustomed to seeing over the past half-decade, this one was a dark tan colour. His database did not recognize it, but it was still similar. He was curious of it and began moving towards it, careful to keep in the thick of the nebula to avoid detection; he deemed his cloakshields unnecessary, for no vessel he had yet come across had either detected him or showed any sign of possessing armament. It appeared to be steering towards him, but Brîn-âos Chkhubî, in his innocence, did nothing. The vessel drew closer, and then stopped. He could sense it was attempting to scan him with what rudimentary technology it undoubtedly had on board. But then he fully recognized it once its plasma-beams were dissolved in his shields.

Tarsin.

He immediately powered his pulse-drives, warping out of the nebula into the interrim.

Shame.

He had liked that one.
