Wath concentration yard

The vast sprawl of these yards, among the first to be electrified, could come as a shock. A pale sun falls on a coal train as it departs to cross the Pennines via Woodhead for Manchester, hauled by two locos as usual though from this angle, it looks like just the one. It's June 1981 and the system was to close later in the year.

Techy stuff: Merry-go-round (MGR) hauled by 76 022+023 which had come of Wath depot at 09.30, 23rd June 1981. OM-2 and 135mm lens, Kodachrome 25, slide scan.
