All-Star Flash #3
“So what brings you in today, Wallace? Surely it’s not about your chemistry test.”
I looked at Mr. Desmond, not really sure what to say. Barry’s sidelined me since the Tarpit attack last week. We were gonna continue training, but he said I should wait it out until he gets this settled. It’s ‘too dangerous’.
“No it’s not about that. I’m happy with my grade. I just...I don’t know.”
”What’s wrong, kid?” he asks, eyebrow raised. I sigh, not really sure how to start.
“I’ve just been having to deal with stuff lately. Things... happened. I really can’t explain how, but it’s changed a lot of my life right now.”
”How so? There’s not trouble at home, is there?”
“Oh no no, nothing like that. Everything’s fine. I think I just miss my folks. They’re still out in Blue Valley, I’m living up here with my aunt for school. I guess there’s just a lot of change going on and it might be just too much.”
Desmond nods, thinking. I can see the gears turning in his head. Maybe this was a mistake.
”I get that. My family moved from Dublin to here when I was 10, and it was a rough transition. What helped me was an outlet. Drawing, listening to music. Things like that help. You have anything like that?”
“Yeah kinda. I like to write, my aunt Iris helps me with that. Oh and her boyfriend, Barry. He’s a CSI for CCPD. He’ll let me look at stuff from some of his investigations, have me see if I can put the pieces together and solve it myself. I like it.”
”Ahh, the inquisitive type. No wonder you’re doing so well in this class, haha. Seems like this Barry is a good role model.”
“When he tries to be,” I say and laugh a little. Desmond chuckles back. “Thanks Mr. Desmond. I feel a little better now. Just getting it off my chest.”
”Of course, Wallace. I’m always here if you need to talk. You’re doing great and I see a lot of bright spots in your future. Just keep it up.”
I nod to him and leave. Man, I really do feel better. Not sure what it was but it helped. My phone vibrates. Barry texted me. ‘Breakthru in Tarpit case, meet me in 2 at Broome’s’.
“Two minutes, huh? You’re on, old man.”
I look around quickly, making sure nobody is around, before I focus on pure lightning and air. It helps. Before I know it, I feel an energy go all throughout my body. ’I love this’, I think to myself as I blast out of the school faster than you could blink.
