Northern Red Bishop
I’m going to be in Ghana once again very soon, and it will be great to see lots of new birds that aren’t usually found in North America. One of the birds I can’t wait to see is the Northern Red Bishop, a wonderfully plumaged scarlet and black bird related to the weavers. My neighborhood is home to quite a few males, who light up the area with their bright songs and energetic display flights that are often sparked by the presence of a much drabber female. Going to Ghana is always a delight. Even though most of the time isn’t meant for birding, there are always great birds everywhere. I can’t wait to go back!
