Red-shouldered Hawk

Thought I’d try something different and crop a little tighter than I usually do. Hera’s not usually very accommodating when it comes to hunting and eating so this was the first time I had really gotten a good look at her while doing the latter. She usually strikes me as a gentle soul even when she’s doing something like calling territorially, but that aura all but disappears when there’s food in her grasp. I was happy to capture the characteristic glare of most hawk species caused by a a ridge of bone, something I’m not usually close enough to emphasize.
