”Re-opening” One of our discount markets celebrated a re-opening in a new location today. Now the story behind is so stupid. Let me try to explain: This location were empty for a long time. No supermarkets where allowed to open here because of law. Of course the owner behind had no interest in missing money on empty rooms - so he wanted the local politicians to change the law. Politicians are hard to get to make a decision about anything – but asking others to handle the decision. So consultants were asked to analyze the situation to see if Ribe had a need of another supermarket. Normally you would say, if one open, one closes. Guess what – the conclusion of the report was - that if a new super market did NOT open, one had to close…. So I called and asked the consultants behind, how they reached that funny conclusion. They had an EXCEL spread sheet. I ask for the sheet and looked into it. It had some strange formulas and I called again and asked for the formulas in it. “Things we just now” was the answer. So – local politicians decided to change the law and make the way for a supermarket based on the conclusion in the analyze. Guess what – no new supermarket opened here. An existing moved in here and re-opened today. So if the expensive consultants are right – another of the supermarkets have to close - because in the end no new supermarket did start in Ribe.....
