Tossed Meth Bag During Hanceville Traffic Stop Yields Two Trafficking Arrests

Two Cullman men were arrested in the City of Hanceville following a traffic stop Wednesday.

Hanceville Police Officer John Davidson conducted a routine traffic stop along Hopewell Road near the Savannah Circle intersection in the City of Hanceville. The stop was initiated when Davidson observed an expired license tag on the vehicle with two occupants inside.

As the subject vehicle was coming to a stop, Officer Davidson witnessed the passenger side occupant tossing a small black bag from the vehicle.

Upon running the expired license plate number through Alabama motor vehicle records, Davidson determined that the license was expired AND not related to the vehicle. It belonged to a different automobile entirely.

At this point, Sergeant Rob Long of Hanceville Police Department (HPD) arrived to provide back-up.

The two individuals were found to have NO driver’s licenses in their possession with both providing weak explanations for their lack of proper licensing and a expired, tampered with license tag.

The black bag discharged from the vehicle contained 29.4 grams of methamphetamine and various items of drug use paraphernalia.

Officer Davidson promptly arrested:

JOSHUA EARL HANNERS (28) of Cullman

DUSTIN LOGAN BOONE (27) of Cullman

Both individuals were taken to the Hanceville City Jail where they face the following charges:

• Trafficking in Methamphetamine

• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

• Tampering with Physical Evidence

Both Hanners and Boone also have prior charges from previous arrests pending.

After being processed at Hanceville Police Department, the pair were transported to the Cullman County Detention Center.

Each party faces a bond amount of at least $1,000,000.

Hanceville Assistant Chief of Police Adam Hadder had these thoughts immediately after the arrestees were safely inside the CCDC:

“It was a great job by both Officer Davidson and Sergeant Long.

This incident is yet another excellent example of how a traffic stop can escalate into an opportunity to take a significant amount of narcotics off the streets of Hanceville.

The Hanceville Police Department is committed to removing the vermin who traffic these substances into our community. It is disgusting they attempt to addict and poison our children, young adults, and families who otherwise wish to reside peacefully and lawfully in the City of Hanceville.”
