Prometheus - Voyager 2

Saturn's moon Prometheus, imaged by Voyager 2 on August 25, 1981. In this image it appears against the backdrop of the planet's clouds and A-ring (outermost ring). The A-ring's Encke Gap runs through the center of the image; the Cassini Gap is visible in the top left corner. Prometheus is a small irregular moon that orbits between Saturn's A and F rings. The moon acts as a shepherd to F-ring material, and is responsible for the braided appearance of that ring.

This image was produced using a green/violet image pair. The red channel is extrapolated by differencing the two color imaging sequence.
