A little after 4 a.m., April 29, 1903, a slab of limestone over one kilometer wide, 425 meters long and 150 meters deep separated from the hillside and crushed the town of Frank, Alberta. The slide swept away everything in its path, including buildings, the local mine and everyone in them. The sound of the fall was heard miles away. Now the area is a memorial as well as a landscape (hence the warnings against defacing the rocks.) It's a strong reminder of how young and unsettled the Rockies really are.
