Holtzapffel - Popping the question
I love the idea that the young man is about to propose while she is peeling potatoes! It was painted by Claus Meyer in 1892.
This is an early, solid mahogany Holtzapffel puzzle - certainly pre-1928, and possibly much earlier. It has 518 pieces, and measures about 23'' x 18''. It's cut in the earlier style, and was challenging to make with no guide picture - the interlocking pieces were fairly easy, but assembling them, with the push-fit pieces, wasn't. I prefer the later Holtzapffel style, but this early puzzle, in good condition, is a treasure.
