7. Fix it in Post (Brenna Lowe)
This photo really intrigued me because of the smoke. As a result, my main goal was to bring out the center parts of the photo - the smoke and the candle (and jar) from which the smoke came from. Unfortunately I did not have access to the RAW file, but I initially painted the smoke in Camera RAW with a sharpening brush before bringing everything into Photoshop. In Photoshop, I applied many masks, including brightness/contrast, curves, hue/saturation and a color lookup Amber filter to the image. I used three alternate blending modes - overlay, multiply and hard light - to help make the smoke and jar pop. Lastly, I also added vignetting to the image to draw attention to the center. Finishing touches included desaturating the table and flower as well as rotating the image to straighten the jar.
