Great Mattiscombe Sands, near Start Point, South Devon. DSC_9648.jpg
One of my favourite views on the South-West coast path. Taken during my walk from Prawle Point to Start Point and back, whilst on holiday last month. 10 miles, all told and a super walk, all the better on a lovely September day.
Great Mattiscombe Sands is a quiet beach, not many people get to it, slightly off the beaten track, up Devon single track lanes to Start Farm (private) car park. There is a direct descent on foot to the beach from the car park along a rough track, down the valley seen at the far end. Otherwise it's the coast path walk to get there as I did.
Seals can usually be seen hauled out and basking on the rocky islands at Partridge Point, top right. These can be seen more closely by following the coast path around the base of Partridge Point; from there a climb along the edge of the cliffs takes the walker to the Start Point ridge, where you can either take the metalled track over the other side down to the lighthouse at Start Point, or return and loop back down the beach access path, with great views of Start Bay, both of which I did, before heading back to Prawle Point.
Thank you for your faves and comments, much appreciated!
