I stood watching this bird for a few minutes. Despite the muddy appearance, it was unable to place any weight on its right leg, hopping around the marsh, even feeding on one leg as shown here, unable to use it to apply leverage from that leg in pulling out the worms. It had clearly adapted to this situation and seemed quite able to feed itself.
