Schoolhouse Covered Bridge. Spanning South Wheelock Branch. Lyndon, Vermont. Added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1971. Built in 1871 using the Kingpost Truss system. It is 42’ in length and was closed to vehicles in 1973.

This picture is the December photo for the National Society for the Preservation of Covered Bridges calendar for 2026. The circumstances involved a round trip to and from Barton, Vermont, to pick up a cello. I elected to exit I-91 as I noticed that there was a fair amount of snow on the ground. I decided to photograph the bridge in that moment. The bridge was once very visible from the interstate and I saw it on my daily commute to St. Johnsbury in the 1990s. The first time I saw the bridge was in 1978 when I had a summer job in the area.
